Principals

Wendy LoweWendy Lowe A.R.A.D. (Advanced)
Wendy danced in many productions with Ballet Theatre of Queensland and also with The Queensland Modern and Contemporary Dance Company. In 1977 Ballet Theatre's Artistic Director, Phyllis Danaher M.B.E., F.R.A.D. appointed Wendy as her Assistant and Ballet Mistress where she was responsible for reproducing many ballets in their repertoire over several years.

Judy LoweJudith Lowe A.R.A.D. (Solo Seal)
Judith danced with Ballet Theatre of Queensland for many years, dancing principal roles in various productions. She was also a Foundation Member of The Queensland Modern and Contemporary Dance Company and toured with them overseas to Britain where she performed in London and Aberdeen to personal acclaim. Judith has been selected to appear with the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia and most recently in Swan Lake with the Royal Ballet during their 2002 Tour of Australia.

Teaching Staff

Judy GouldJudy Gould – M.R.A.D. - Ballet
Judy is a registered RAD teacher and has been teaching ballet for over 20 years. She has also completed a BA (Dance) at Kelvin Grove QUT, where her studies included both Dance and Education units. As a child, Judy’s love of ballet was fostered by her own teacher, Phyllis Danaher, and it is Judy’s aim to pass on both the skills and this joy of dance to her students.

Tammy BenfieldTammy Benfield A.R.A.D. – Ballet
Tammy commenced lessons with the Studio in 1974. She has completed all her RAD exams and has been teaching both Junior and Senior Ballet classes. Tammy enjoys all forms of dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and pas de deux. Tammy has performed leading roles with Ballet Theatre of Queensland and appeared with the Royal Ballet in their 2002 season of Swan Lake. Tammy was also invited to travel to Sydney with the Royal Ballet to take part in their performances at the Princess Theatre. She has a wonderful rapport with the students, and is an asset to our teaching staff.

Sandra WalkerSandra Walker A.R.A.D. – Ballet
Sandra has completed all her RAD Examinations and also studied SATD Syllabus, sitting for exams in Classical, Jazz & Tap. She was a founding member of the Australian Youth Ballet in Brisbane and toured with them to Aberdeen and London. She then went on to study at the Australian Ballet School for 3 years and was chosen as a performing member of their Dancers Company. Sandra has been assisting with classes at the studio for the last nine years.

PhilipPhilip Allan Bal. Dip (London) - Ballet, Pas de Deux - Ballet, Pas de Deux
Philip has a Diploma of Ballet from The Rambert School (London). He was a professional ballet dancer with Irish National Ballet, and Royal New Zealand Ballet. He has trained in RAD, Vaganova and Bournonville styles of ballet. He also appeared with Paris Opera Ballet in their season of La Bayadere. Philip’s Musical Theatre credits include Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Cats, Oklahoma, and The Mikado, to name a few. Philip is currently a Freelance Classical Ballet Teacher, specialising in Boys Coaching and Pas de deux. He also has choreographed for Musical Productions, CSTD examinations and eisteddfods.

Sonja PeedoSonja Peedo ARAD (Advanced), Assoc Dip of Arts (Dance) QUT, Master of Arts in Contemporary Dance – University of Kent, England - Ballet, Contemporary
Sonja began dance in Mount Isa, and moved to Brisbane to attend the Queensland Dance School of Excellence. She has performed with the Queensland Ballet Company, and studied Contemporary at QUT Kelvin grove. She performed with Expressions Dance Company for 5 years, and then moved to London where she performed with several Dance Companies overseas dancing leading roles and travelling with Alston Dance Company for 10 years. She has a Master of Arts Degree and has taught both ballet and contemporary techniques from beginner to Post Graduate level at the London Contemporary Dance School. She has taught at both QUT and Queensland Ballet’s “Dance for Parkinson’s” classes and is looking forward to joining us this year.

Riccale ReidRiccale Reid M.R.A.D., Ass. ATOD (ballet, tap, jazz)
Riccale has been dancing since the age of three and has completed extensive training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Musical Theatre. She has completed all Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) examinations for ballet, tap and jazz and is also a qualified Associate teacher for the ATOD society. Riccale has also completed her Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) examinations in ballet. She has studied at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries in Dance and Drama and a Bachelor of Education and is currently teaching Secondary School dance in Brisbane. Riccale has performed over her years of dancing for numerous companies and festivals and is presently enjoying teaching for Ashgrove Dance Studio on a casual basis.

Jean LoganJean Logan A.R.A.D. (Solo Seal) – Ballet
Jean has passed all her RAD Examinations and was a member of Ballet Theatre with Wendy and Judy for several years. She has worked professionally, performing in JC Williamsons musicals both here and in New Zealand. She has been assisting the studio for over 20 years, and we value her expertise in assisting with the training of our students.

Anne FarleyAnne Farley (nee McCaffrey) M.R.A.D. - Advanced 1 - Ballet, Tap & Jazz
Anne has studied ballet, tap and jazz with the Studio since she was 3 sitting for RAD examinations in ballet. Whilst travelling overseas Anne attended classes in London and also choreographed a production of Little Shop of Horrors for the Fulham Broadway Theatre Group. Anne has a flair for choreography and has choreographed numbers for our Annual Show for the senior students as well as assisting with many rehearsals. She is very capable of teaching Ballet, Tap and Jazz and is able to be called upon to step in if another teacher is unavailable.

Rosemary JonesRosemary Jones – Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop
Rosemary is an original Studio member having commenced lessons with the school in 1972. Rosemary has studied Tap, Jazz and Irish and has passed Examinations. She has been teaching Tap and Jazz with the studio for many years.

Viola Wynne-HoelscherViola Wynne-Hoelscher – Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary
Viola has been dancing at Ashgrove Dance Studio for almost 20 years. As a young dancer she was a member of Ballet Theatre of Queensland. Viola has completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Dance) and Secondary Education at QUT and went on to teach dance at Narangba Valle State High School. Viola has a passion for all styles of dance, particularly Contemporary and Hip Hop and thoroughly enjoys teaching young people. Viola has been tutoring a performance group of senior students have have danced at several Eisteddfods receiving high praise from the adjucators.

Kris KerrDr Kris Kerr - A.R.A.D (Advanced) – Advanced Tap, Broadway Jazz
Kris commenced dance lessons at age 3, with extensive training in classical ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary dance, musical theatre, Highland and Irish dance. His successes in Queensland Eisteddfods includes winning 28 dance championships, 14 of these for tap dance. He has since taught for many dance schools in South East Queensland with weekly classes, seminars and freelance choreography. By day, Kris is a medical doctor with a specialist fellowship in anatomical pathology. He also holds four diplomas with the AMEB and Trinity College for classical piano and music theory. Of all dance styles, he particularly enjoys teaching advanced tap classes, with progressively challenging combinations involving intricate rhythms and fast speed. Kris will be performing in the upcoming production of Strictly Gershwin with Queensland in 2016.

John OlisJohn Olis – Boys Hip Hop
John Olis (Bboy Silo), representing BNEAZY crew, have been breaking since 2010 and competing as much as he can everywhere to gain higher skills in breaking and eventually become a pro bboy. Born in the Philippines, he has moved to New Zealand where he started his dance career in his late-teens and has experience in krump, popping and street choreography whilst being in different dance crews in New Zealand. He has performed for many organizations including Adidas, Hoyts, Broncos and other appearances with other dancers. Silo wants to gain world titles in the future and progress his dance to a legendary level. He has won a few national competitions and is still counting. -Bboy vs Burlesque (NZ) Hip Hop Unite V4 (PH) Piranha Jam (NZ)

Rebecca JonesRebecca Jones
Rebecca has studied with the Studio from a Tiny Tot, commencing in 1999. She has studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical Dance.

A former student of Mt St Michael's College, she studied dance at school for her Senior Certificate and last year she was engaged by the college to teach the Grade 8 student's dance course as well as the extra-curricular Dance Troup which she will be continuing in 2015.
Rebecca has passed RAD Examinations, last year passing Grade 6 with Distinction and is working towards Advanced 1. Rebecca has assisted with classes for several years, in particular Tap, Hip Hop and Children's ballet and this year we are delighted that she will be taking this a step further and will be teaching as well as assisting.

Natalie JonesNatalie Jones
Natalie commenced dancing with the studio in 1999. She has studied Ballet Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical Dance.

Natalie has taken RAD Examinations, most recently passing Grade 6 with Distinction and is working towards Advanced 1. She studied dance at high school, and her results were excellent and formed part of her Senior Certificate. This year we are delighted that, after assisting with classes for several years, this year she will be teaching as well as assisting with Tap and Hip Hop and Children's Ballet classes.

MelissaMelissa Jones
Melissa commenced dancing with the Studio in 1999, and studied ballet, tap and hip hop. She took a short break from dancing, but has returned to classes and now is particularly interested in the hip hop, and choreographed OMG for our performances at QPAC last year. Melissa will be teaching some hip hop classes this year, and assisting with the tiny tots from time to time.

Natalie HumanNatalie Human– CSTD Modern Jazz Dip. - Tap & Jazz Hip Hop
Natalie has had 25 years of dance training including eisteddfod performance, exam participation and performance troupes. She has been teaching since 2001 and has performed and won prizes at the 2008 Asia Pacific Championships in Modern Jazz, Tap and Lyrical Jazz. Natalie has choreographed for the Raffles Schools Singapore Mass Dance (for 250+ students, as well as for the Performance Troupe performing at the Singapore Ministry of Education Annual Ball.
Natalie is currently on maternity leave, but will be returning to teaching soon.

Evan JonesEvan Jones A.R.A.D. - (Advanced) (Solo Seal) - Guest Tutor
Evan began dance at a very early age. A student of Elsie Seguss, he passed the RAD Solo Seal in 1968. He performed in Brisbane with Ballet Theatre of Queensland, The Queensland Modern & Contemporary Dance Company, Steps to Stardom, the Young Seven Juniors and local appearances as Humphrey B Bear. He left Australia in 1980 to further his dance studies at Rosella Hightower’s Centre de Danse in Cannes, France. He danced professionally with ballet companies in Europe and Canada as soloist and ballet master. Evan returned to Brisbane in 1997 to take up the position of Lecturer in Ballet at QUT. He obtained a Masters in Education (Higher Education}, and has published several academic papers and book chapters, guested in Australia and overseas and presented original research at international conferences. Besides dance itself, Evans passions include passing on the joy of dance to students and helping students find their “dancer within” so tat they can become the best, most authentic and expressive dancer they can be.
Evan is presently overseas, and we look forward to him taking classes again when he is in Brisbane

Robyn RossRobyn Ross A.R.A.D. - (Advanced) - Guest Tutor
Starting at Ashgrove Dance Studio at age 7, Robyn attended QDSE and began her professional career with the Queensland Ballet. She has performed with several European companies and in 1994 joined the Bat-Dor Company (Israel) as Principal Artist and worked with Ballet Contemporaneo de Caracas (Venezuela) and Companie Philippe Trehet (France). She was Rehearsal Director for Ballet Ireland, Introdans – The Netherlands and le Grand Theatre de Geneve (Switzerland) and has taught throughout France, Hong Kong and Australia as well as guest teaching for professional dance companies worldwide.
Robyn is presently overseas, and we look forward to her taking classes again when she is in Brisbane.
